Una Healy

Happy New Year!

Is it just me or has 2011 come and gone in a blink of the eye? It only seems like yesterday that everyone was getting excited about the Headlines tour, rumours about a new album and what 2011 had in store for our lovely ladies. I think it’s fair to say 2011 was a generally successful year for the girls, the only minor inconveniences had to be the chart placements of My Heart Takes over and On Your Radar, but apart from that the year as a whole was pretty successful. Two tours, ending with the awesome All Fired Up Tour which was the girls first headline arena tour. The release of their new album On My Radar – which is a solid album – just for whatever reasons the girls have struggled to increase their fan base or have managed to alienate the ‘floater’ buyers who haven’t (yet) picked up the album. Either way I’m sure their management are looking at the stats and details that we don’t have and are working on a plan for 2012, talking of which …

What is lined up for the girls in 2012? We gaze into our crystal ball, which is awfully cloudy, and guess the following MIGHT happen …

– We could expect to see another single from On My Radar, what one? Who knows, but if Una is going to be involved in the promo she’s not going to want to be dancing around, so maybe a ballad?
– Common sense suggests that there will be an album release sooner rather than later. You can probably flip a coin right now if this is likely to be a re-release of On My Radar or another album type release – Greatest Hits anyone?? – Which means they could promote a new single without Una’s vocals heavily included.
– More engagements? What with Una and Rochelle getting into the sprit this Christmas who’s next? Frankie? Mollie? Place your bets now …
– More babies?
– Was all this talk about the USA just talk? Or will they actually go about it? Or will the not-so-great chart placement of On Your Radar in the UK, and the baby, change all those plans?

Musically 2012 could be another sparse year for The Saturdays, I’d imagine the girls will continue to record during 2012, maybe we’ll see new-new material by the years end, but I think the levels of promo that they did throughout 2011 will be unlikely what with Una wanting to spend time (and rightly so) with her baby, if she really wants to tour up and down the UK across the summer festival season is a decision that only she can their management can make, although the girls as a 4 piece are likely to do some promotional work for any likely single/album releases if its on the same scale as 2011 is up for debate.

Either way, we personally thank you for ALL your support to this website during 2011, with our competitions to meet the girls on the Headlines Tour at the start of the year, though to the All Fired Up Tour that only recently ended, without you guys and girls visiting it would make our work pointless.

Hope everyone has a wonderful new year! 🙂

Una’s announcement of the engagement with Ben

First off congratulations to them! With Una pregnant this was really the only right thing left to do! I wish them all the best 🙂 Below, and warning that this IS a bit of a tour spoiler perhaps (but then again it is over so), is a video of Una’s announcement on stage at Wembley just under a week ago, followed by a performance of “Wish I Didn’t Know”. (bit of a strange song choice perhaps after the announcement as I’m sure her and the crowd are thrilled to know but … LOL)

Thanks to the people in the chitchat box for pointing me out to this video 🙂

Mollie: “Una’s pregnancy won’t affect us”

@MollieTheSats speaks to the Metro in their 60 Second Interview 😀

Why did you want to become a singer?

I’ve always loved singing. When I was about four I loved singing along to Kylie Minogue ‘doing the Locomotion’ and whatever came on the  radio. Later on, I saw Take That at Wembley and was amazed by their performance and, as a young teenager, I really loved Britney Spears.

Have you met her?

No, but I saw her  concert recently. I get very star struck by virtually everyone. When we first started and did shows like GMTV, I was like: ‘Oh my God, I can’t  believe I’m meeting the presenters’ and would ask to get my picture taken with everyone. We saw Timbaland in Los Angeles and I said I was going to ask for a picture and the girls said: ‘Please don’t, you’ll look like such a dork.’ I thought we might never meet him again so went over like a right nerd and said: ‘Hi Timbaland, can I get my photo taken with you?’ He said yes, at which point the other four dived in. So I’m the one who looks like a geek but they’re very happy to get in there. I try to keep my cool but I’m not very good at it.

Why did you turn your back on skiing to pursue pop stardom?

I skied from the age of six to 17 and was the youngest person to be selected for the adult England squad, which I was so proud of, but singing was what I always really wanted to do. When I was on the mountains I was wishing I was a pop singer. I reached the point where to continue with my skiing career I’d have had to move to Austria, leave school and dedicate my life to it. I  decided to step away. It was a huge risk; my parents were very worried, because it’s very unlikely your dreams come true when you want to be a pop singer.

What lessons has the music industry taught you?

To harden up. When we released our first single, we got horrible comments on YouTube slating us. I phoned our management in tears saying: ‘Everyone hates us.’  As time goes by, you learn not to  take those comments on board.  We receive a bit of abuse every day  either on Twitter or YouTube but I’m doing what I love for a living and let it all go over my head.

Do you ever Google yourself now?

No, but I have very active grandparents who have just discovered the internet and tell me all the things they’ve read about me. You want to see what the fans think of your new singles and videos but you always get one or two bad comments. Sometimes it sticks in your mind if someone says you look like a chimpanzee. I don’t understand who has time to send stuff like that.

Are you getting another reality show?

We’re talking about doing one in the US. It’s quite daunting. When we did our first one with ITV2, my  attitude was I wanted to be a singer, not a reality star, and wanted to be known for being a good performer and to keep work and my private life separate.  But if you do a reality show you have to do it properly. The scariest thing is you forget the cameras are there and let your guard down because you become friends with the film crew.

What are the highs and lows of dating a model?

The high is that I’m with David [Gandy] and I like him so much and he’s amazing. The lows are I’m never going to look a patch on him. I wake up and think: ‘He’s so pretty.’ Then I look at myself in the mirror and think: ‘Oh my God, I need to sort my hair out.’ That’s a low.

What’s it like seeing him topless on every bus stop in London?

It’s funny. I pass them and think: ‘There he is again, naked.’ I’m proud of him every time I see one. I text him and say: ‘I’ve just seen you on the side of a bus.’ He’s much cooler about it than I am.

How will bandmate Una Healy’s pregnancy affect The Saturdays?

It’s amazing. We see her belly grow every day and I can’t believe there’s a baby in there. She’s the first of my friends to get pregnant and I’m fascinated. We’re all going to become aunties, which is exciting. It won’t change The Saturdays too much. She’s doing all the rehearsals for the tour – she’s  really fit and active.

What are the perks of fame?

Freebies are nice. The best one was a holiday to the Caribbean. I don’t think of myself as being famous. I think I’m lucky to do what I love doing. We were recording and one of the girls went to the newsagent and there was screaming from outside. I thought: ‘Why are they screaming at my friend? Has her skirt blown up?’ and then you remember they’re screaming because they’re fans and they’re excited to see her. It’s still difficult to get my head around.

What ambitions have you got for the band?

World domination. We went to Asia a couple of years ago and would love to go to Europe and the US. It’s a big place. We’re so excited about our arena tour. We want to keep selling albums and keep enjoying it. You see people who don’t enjoy it any more – we’re so lucky we still have that love for it.

The Saturdays’ single My Heart Takes Over is out now. Latest album On Your Radar follows on November 21.

Una eyes ‘sensible’ outfits for ‘All Fired Up’ tour

Pregnant pop star Una Healy has vowed to don “sensible” attire for The Saturdays’ upcoming tour, after she tripped and fell while wearing wide-legged trousers. The singer is expecting her first child with rugby star boyfriend Ben Foden next year, but is refusing to wind down her busy schedule until after the band completes its All Fired Up! tour in December. However, Una admits she won’t be donning her usual high heels onstage, after her flamboyant fashion caused her to take a tumble. She tells Hello! magazine, “They’re fine for posing in but on stage I’ll wear sensible shoes. I can’t risk falling. “I tripped and fell a few weeks ago and got so panicked. I was in flat shoes but I had flowing palazzo pants on and got tangled up. It really stressed me out.”

Benuna’s baby is a …

Una Healy has revealed the sex of her baby.

And it seems that her bandmates could be in for some competition.

She’s having a little girl.

The Saturdays singer found out the gender of her little one at a 20-week scan and has announced the news to Hello! magazine.

She said: “I come from a family of girls, I went to an all-girls school and I’m in a girl band, so I guess it’s fitting that I’m having a daughter.”

The Saturdays’ All Fired Up tour starts next month and, although Una admitted that she will be swapping her heels for flats after a scary fall recently, she can’t wait to get going.

She said: “I’ve been quite surprised that people have said, ‘How will you do this tour?’ Naturally I’ll be careful and I’d never do anything that would put our baby at risk. But I’m pregnant, not ill.”

She added: “Loads of women continue to work through their pregnancies and this is my job, so why wouldn’t I carry on doing what I love – especially when I feel so well.”

Her super-hot rugby player boyfriend also said in the interview that although the baby wasn’t planned, they’re both chuffed to bits.

He said: “We weren’t trying for a baby.

“But we’d talked about starting a family and we’re in a loving and committed relationship, so it wasn’t a massive shock. I was over the moon. I plan on spending the rest of my life with Una.”

The full Interview is available in Hello magazine, which is out in shops today!

Una celebrates her 30th with Family

Nothing wrong with being 30! @UnaHealy celebrated her 30th birthday with family in Dublin whilst her other half, Ben Foden, and his team mates crashed out of the Rugby World Cup after loosing to France.

‘I’m actually quite enjoying the not drinking because you know what? One thing I don’t miss is hangovers. I can tell you that for sure.

‘For anyone who is thinking of giving up drink – it’s not actually that bad.

‘You can get on with your life and get on doing things and not have that awful headache the next day. ‘I’m quite enjoying that to be honest.

‘And when you’re pregnant, for some reason you don’t even want to drink. It’s almost like a natural kind of reaction.’
