FRANKIE SANDFORD’S TOO GLAM FOR RADIO
THE Sony Radio Academy Awards is a glamorous affair and it seemed hosts this year were out to banish the “face for radio” cliché.
A troupe of alluring ladies including Fearne Cotton, Lisa Snowdon, Selina Scott, Claudia Winkleman, Anna Ford, Fiona Phillips, Lauren Laverne and Konnie Huq sashayed down the red carpet at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London with The Saturdays singer Frankie Sandford first on stage to present an award.
Despite coming fourth in a poll of the world’s sexiest women, Frankie, 21, could name better candidates: “Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Eva Mendes, I’ve lots,” she laughed.
Host Chris Evans admitted a boyhood crush on Anna Ford, dazzling in a turquoise trouser suit.
“I used to video the news when she was on,” he said, adding marriage and fatherhood had put paid to his bachelor ways. “Those days are over now!” said the 44-year-old Radio 2 breakfast presenter . “I had a good run though, I was punching way above my weight!”
Sir David Attenborough, landing speech broadcaster of the year with the BBC Natural History Unit Radio for BBC Radio 4 said he had to be strong-armed into radio ventures including Life Stories: “TV is a doddle,” said the 84-year-old.
“Radio terrifies me.”
