Interview: Rochelle Wiseman

Chart conquering girl group The Saturdays bring a sprinkling of sassy pop to Thetford Forest tonight. EMMA LEE speaks to singer Rochelle Wiseman.

She may only be 21, but Rochelle Wiseman is already a music business veteran. She cut her teeth as a member of S Club Juniors and is now one fifth of the Saturdays, the five-piece girl group tipped by some as the successors to Girls Aloud, whose natural habitat is the higher reaches of the chart.

Along with Frankie Sandford (also a former S Clubber), Mollie King, Una Healy and Vanessa White they gatecrashed the top 10 with their debut single, the gleaming pop gem If This Is Love, and the follow up single Up followed suit with their first album Chasing Lights going platinum.

Last year they were chosen to record the official Comic Relief single, Just Can’t Get Enough, and their sophomore album, Wordshaker, which spawned more hits including Forever is Over and Ego, was released in the autumn.

Tonight, ahead of the release of their new mini-album Headlines, they’re heading to the forest – Thetford Forest to be precise – for a concert under the stars.

SATURDAYS HOTTIE ROCHELLE WISEMAN AND JLS HUNK MARVIN HUMES SHACK UP

LIFE’S getting super serious for singing lovebirds Rochelle Wiseman and Marvin Humes.

The pop star couple are so obsessed with each other they’ve decided to crank their relationship up a notch by moving in together.

The Saturdays’ leggy lass exclusively told us she’s shacking up with her 25-year-old JLS fella.

Despite the loved-up pair trying to play it cool, Rochelle, 21, told us at T4 On The Beach: “We are moving in together. I’ll be adding a feminine touch to the place.

“I’ll be decorating – isn’t that always the woman’s job?”

Er, we thought DIY was a man’s prerogative. While Rochelle chatted to us like a lovesick pup, we hear the JLS boys had some serious lady issues on their hands.

The lads had to beef up their security after hundreds of fans lined the streets of Weston-super-Mare just to see them go on to the beach for a soundcheck.

After fighting off screaming girls, Marvin spent the rest of the afternoon surgically attached to his girlfriend’s lips.

The Saturdays reveal album details

The Saturdays have revealed more details about their new album Headlines.

The group, who performed new single ‘Missing You’ for the first time at yesterday’s T4 On The Beach, have recorded a total of five new songs for the eight-track mini LP.

The remaining songs will be singles ‘Forever Is Over’, ‘Ego’ and a remix of the album track ‘One Shot’ from their previous record Wordshaker.

Rochelle Wiseman told Digital Spy: “We’d finished the last album and we’d come across some songs that we were really excited about. The songs that we had found were so current, and we’d written a couple of songs ourselves, [so] we wanted to just get everything out now.”

Una Healy also confirmed that a track called ‘Higher’ – which the band have already performed live at a number of festivals – will be on the album.

She added: “[There are] some surprises in there – some really great tracks. We’re not steering away from what the fans like.”
