THERE was added glitz and glamour to the City of Liverpool as pop’s most gorgeous girl group hit the stage at the Echo Arena at the weekend.
Performing to an almost-packed-out arena, The Saturdays belted out a range of their hits from their four albums with a few added extras for their All Fired Up tour.
Opening with Notorious, descending to the stage in a mesh lift, Mollie King, Vanessa White, Rochelle Wiseman, Frankie Sandford, Una Healy (plus bump), wiggled and shimmied in the tiniest of outfits for their adoring fans.
Work was followed by Get Ready Get Set, taken from their new album, On Your Radar and the crowd-pleasing Forever is Over.
While the five girls put on an entertaining show with five hunky dancers, there seemed to be something lacking – that wow factor.
The gorgeous ladies were mesmerising to watch and it was adorable to see Una attempt to still dance while heavily pregnant but even though the popstrels are five years into their career as a band, they still seem a little amateurish on tour.
Their sound was impeccable, with Vanessa really showing what talent she beholds yet visually the whole show was slightly disappointing.
A Glee-style musical mash-up of Maroon Five’s Moves Like Jagger and the 2008 track If This is Love pulled it back for me and saved the show, however their rendition of Winter Wonderland just didn’t work – a version of Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas would have been more suitable.
Clearly winning over their younger fans and many men (let’s face it, to win over the male audience, all they had to do was just stand there!), The Saturdays still have a long way to go to reach the heights that the likes of Girls Aloud and the Spice Girls managed to conquer – but they are giving it their best shot.
