WINDSWEPT fans yesterday queued early in chilly gusts to buy tickets to see pop sensations The Saturdays.
Tickets for the Rhyl Pavilion concert went on sale at 10am and sold out in just two hours and 50 minutes.
It beat the whole day it took for 2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke to sell-out her concert on January 14, 2011 at the same venue.
London-based The Saturdays – Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman – stage their much-anticipated concert there on February 3, 2011.
Yesterday, one Saturdays fan even tried to set up his tent at midnight but most arrived from 5.30am.
The queue grew and snaked around the foyer of the giant concert hall.
At 9.15am, Pavilion staff opened their doors and grateful fans then queued inside until the box office opened at 10am. By then the numbers had swelled to 100.
Continue after the break.
First in the queue was The Saturdays fan Stuart Jones, 23, of Edgbaston Road, Rhyl.
He had tried to set up a tent outside the Pavilion at midnight but been moved on by theatre staff.
Stuart said: “They said there was no point queuing. I went home to put the tent back and came back to the theatre. It started to rain and I got soaked and ended up in a bus shelter. I haven’t slept. I went to McDonald’s for breakfast then queued up.”
Further along the line, a Rhuddlan grandmother, Carmel Roberts, 67, told how she turned up at about 6.45am.
She said: “I’m buying tickets for my seven grandchildren. They’re at school and work. They asked me what I was doing on Friday morning and could I buy tickets for them?”
A Rhyl Pavilion spokeswoman said: “We’re very pleased that artists of the calibre of The Saturdays are coming to Rhyl. It sold out in two hours 50 minutes. It was a double whammy because Alexandra Burke tickets sold out in a day last Friday.”
She added that the fan with the tent was told to move on for his own safety’. “He came back later and got front row seats anyway.”
The Saturdays, whose hits include Missing You, will be on a 17-date tour to promote their latest CD Headlines. Their TV show ‘The Saturdays: 24/7’ is rising up the ratings.
