The Saturdays to appear in Hollyoaks

The Sun

SEXY new girlband The Saturdays are turning up on weekdays — in Hollyoaks.

Gorgeous Frankie, Vanessa, Una, Mollie and Rochelle have landed their first acting gig, appearing in the steamier late-night version of the Channel 4 show in November.

The If This Is Love singers will play a fictional band in the northern town for a gig.

A source said: “They’re really excited. They love the show — but they’re a bit nervous about performing in front of the cast.”

The Saturdays on the Up!

SundayMail

THE Scot who helped launch girl group The Saturdays into the charts says they are here to stay.

Songwriter John Reid, who co-wrote debut hit If This Is Love, says new song Up proves they’re no one-hit wonders.

The girls – ex-S Club 8’s Frankie Sandford and Rochelle Wiseman plus Una Healy, Mollie King and Vanessa White – are the hottest female act since The Spice Girls and Girls Aloud.

John – who penned hits for Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson – said: “I wrote If This Is Love with the team behind Mark Morrison and Jordan Sparkes. I heard the girls play live. They have real vocal talent – and they look sensational.”

The girls’ debut album, Chasing Lights, is out October 20.

Two in a row for The Saturdays?

From DigitalSpy

We were quite taken with The Saturdays when we interviewed them a couple of months back, so we were pleased when their debut single, ‘If This Is Love’, managed to crack the top ten. Nice job Frankie, Mollie, Rochelle, Una and Vanessa…. trouble is, you’ve got to do it all over again now.

Well, here’s the good news: the group’s all-important second single had its radio premiere over the weekend and it’s actually really good. It’s called ‘Up’ and it’s a quivering, sinewy electropop track about taking a relationship to ‘The Next Level’. “This is the crossing at the main intersection,” they sing at one point, “Up is where we go from here.” It’s one of several travelling-themed lines that sound good as they play but don’t quite make sense.

Anyway, after a few spins it becomes clear than ‘Up’ is actually a stronger single than ‘If This Is Love’. Its chorus is just as infectious, but it’s edgier, the production is more interesting and it features more sirens than a particularly dramatic episode of The Bill. If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s currently streaming on the group’s MySpace page.
